cushing's syndrome

Cushing's Disease and Cushing's Syndrome are both conditions caused by too much cortisol in the body. It is important to figure out where the extra cortisol is coming from in order to diagnose the condition. To do this, doctors may do a thousand tests to see if the pituitary gland is producing too much of a hormone called ACTH, if the adrenal gland is producing too much cortisol, or if there is a tumor in the lung that is producing ACTH in an abnormal way.
