It is the work that I will start reading the 1942 edition as of now. Let's quote a famous aphorism from the work: "Why is this endless creation, if it will perish one day, every created thing!"

goethe began work on the theme of faust in 1770, at the age of 21, and had worked on it for sixty years without a break; but by 1831, one year before his death and at the age of eighty-two, he was convinced that the work was complete.

In fact, he was not a very innocent character before the devil's offer. The character in the situation we call screwed up. That's why the devil brought him a suggestion like "You are not in a very good condition anyway, even if you don't sell your soul to me, you will be like that, at least sell it and go", this is what Faustus really thought of..

Once entered into the dictionary, the information becomes somehow anonymous. A dictionary writer should not delete what he has written, no matter what extent* he has a legitimate reason. (with the exception of material error or things that exceed its purpose, of course) the opposite behavior should be considered disrespectful to the entire community, far beyond the purpose of protest. It's not nice to come across a blank page right after saying "oh look, faustus had a very nice entry on that subject".
