When we are calculating the integral, we use the words 'u' and 'dv' to help us figure out which function we are integrating and which variable we are integrating with respect to. These words don't have any real meaning, but they are helpful in solving the integral.
This process starts by looking at the different types of functions (logarithmic, arctangent, polynomial, trigonometric, and hyperbolic) in a certain order (laptu). First, the derivative of the first type of function is taken, then the integral of the second type of function is taken, and so on. This process is called partial integration and it helps to determine the order of priority of the different types of functions.
In integrals, if two expressions can be split up into pieces, the first expression is called 'u' and the second expression is called 'dv'. For example, if you have a logarithmic and a trigonometric expression multiplied together, the logarithmic expression would be 'u' and the trigonometric expression would be 'dv'.
